Secondary School Athletic Trainer PAID ASSISTANTSHIP Athletic Trainer Initiative

This program is a community effort supported by the National Football League Foundation and the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation. The structure will be similar to a graduate assistantship; licensed athletic trainers will be placed in a select Duval County Public High School to perform athletic training duties while completing coursework to obtain a Master of Science in Kinesiology through Jacksonville University. This program is a two-year commitment which provides an opportunity for full-time employment as an athletic trainer upon completion within the Duval County Public Schools. In 2017, five qualified candidates will be selected for this program. Applications are now being accepted for Certified/Licensed Athletic Trainers to serve an assigned school within the Duval County Public Schools. Only three positions are available.

Job Description/Duties:
• 20 – 40 hours per week of athletic training coverage at assigned school
• Coursework completion, a combination of online and traditional classroom settings
• Design, organize and manage a secondary school athletic training room
• Follow established policies and procedures for athletic trainers in the DCPS
• Accurate and timely reporting of injuries using online tool
• Establish and manage emergency action plans
• Coordinate school AED program
• Prioritize game and practice athletic training services
• Conduct pre-season meetings with each sport coach/team
• Maintain timely communication
• Participate in annual athletic screening program
• Other event coverage as assigned

Start date: July 2018
Salary: $20,000 value/year (inclusive of salary and tuition benefits)

• Licensed athletic trainer in the state of Florida, or eligible
• BOC Certified and NATA member
• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 from a regionally accredited university
• Priority given to candidates who achieve a combined score of 300 on current scale of GRE (verbal and quantitative sections)
• Admission into Jacksonville University Graduate Program
• Independently motivated
• Works well with others in both team and individual situations
• Strong work ethic
• Possesses key attributes of a health care professional
